TOP DESTINATIONS
Northern Vietnam experiences four distinct seasons, while the south has a more tropical climate with two main seasons: dry and rainy. Here’s a breakdown of the best time to visit Vietnam based on region and activity:
Northern Vietnam:
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are considered the best times to visit this region for comfortable temperatures, clear skies, and lower humidity.
Winter (December to February) can be cold and misty, but offers a chance to experience snow in the mountains.
Summer (June to August) can be hot and humid, but is a good time to visit if you plan to trek in the mountains.
Central Vietnam:
The central region experiences a rainy season from September to January, so the best time to visit is during the dry season from February to August.
The months of February to April offer comfortable temperatures and less crowded beaches.
Southern Vietnam:
The dry season runs from December to April, making it the best time to visit for beachgoers.
The rainy season runs from May to November, with the heaviest rainfall in June, July, and August.
The Tet holiday (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) takes place in late January or early February, and is a great time to experience local culture and festivities.
Overall, the best time to visit Vietnam is during the shoulder seasons of spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is mild and the crowds are thinner. However, depending on your interests and activities, other seasons may be more suitable for your visit.
The best time for an all-round tour of Vietnam is between the months of February and April, the only time of the year when all places in Vietnam enjoy pleasant temperatures with very little rain.
In north of Vietnam the temperatures can get cold during December and January. The months of October, November and February and also March enjoy excellent weather before the winter weather sets in.
The Central region of Vietnam has unusually late monsoons which means that while the rest of Vietnam experiences monsoon, the months of June, July and August are good to visit Central Vietnam.
