SIKKIM

Overview
Sikkim is a beautiful state located in the northeastern part of India. It shares borders with Bhutan, Tibet (China), and Nepal. The region is nestled in the mighty Himalayas and is renowned for its awe-inspiring landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, and rich cultural heritage. One of the prominent features of Sikkim is Kangchenjunga, the highest mountain in India and the third highest in the world, standing at an impressive height of 8,586 meters (28,169 feet). Its snow-covered peaks form a breathtaking backdrop to the state’s picturesque scenery. Sikkim’s mountainous terrain also gives rise to numerous glaciers, alpine meadows, and pristine lakes, adding to its natural splendor. The state is famous for its vibrant biodiversity, boasting a wide range of plant and animal species. Sikkim’s forests are home to thousands of varieties of wildflowers, including orchids and rhododendrons, which bloom in a riot of colors during the spring season. The region’s rich flora and fauna have led to the establishment of several national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, such as Khangchendzonga National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Sikkim holds a significant place in Buddhism, and its hilltop monasteries are an integral part of its cultural and religious fabric. Pemayangtse Monastery, dating back to the early 1700s, is one of the oldest and most important monasteries in Sikkim. It is located near the town of Pelling and offers a serene and tranquil environment for spiritual seekers and visitors alike. The monastery is renowned for its ancient Buddhist scriptures, exquisite wall paintings, and a seven-tiered painted wooden structure known as the Zangdog Palri. Apart from its natural and cultural attractions, Sikkim offers numerous adventure opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. Trekking, mountaineering, river rafting, and paragliding are popular activities that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the region’s breathtaking landscapes and explore its hidden gems. Sikkim’s unique blend of natural beauty, diverse flora and fauna, and spiritual heritage make it a sought-after destination for travelers seeking an offbeat and enchanting experience in the lap of the Himalayas.

Best Time to tRavel

Like all Himalayan Regions, the best time to visit in Sikkim is from March to May and from October to mid-December. During these months, the weather in this state is pleasant with clear skies and mild temperatures, making it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Summers are pleasant in Sikkim and also with vacation season we see lot of travelers wanting to visit Sikkim.

Travelers who like cold season and want to experience snow then January and February are good months to visit Sikkim.

Monsoon season sets in July and August and Sikkim experiences heavy rainfall and dur which there are potential landslides and road conditions are difficult. This is not the ideal season to visit Sikkim and we discourage travelers to visit Sikkim in these 2 months.
